Hi

Difficult to know by the number  but I am sure someone on here will recognize the Number.

The Only Jones I can Remember from that time is Scarf Jones
You can contact him via e mail to Mick Colton in Hereford

Hi Pierre..

Some of your details seem to be wrong as to the medals...?

Assuming he was in the RGJ, his rank would have been established as (Rifleman) Rfn..not PTE? and in 1964..The Battalion would have been known as 1GJ ...(1 greenjackets) the Royal title came in 1966..
1958 to 1966 was the Greenjackets Brigade...
The only other thing is the Gentleman might have been attached to the Battalion..
i.e. Cook (ACC)  Driver (RCT) or a member of REME..Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineeers.

1GJ was originally 43rd and 52nd of foot (Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry)
Hope this is of help?

Regards
Mark DWM

Pierre

I served with 1 GJ and my number is 2388xxxx so if he is 2399xxxx then I am sure I would have known him but honestly cannot place the man although there were a few who went by the name of Jones.   Anyone with that number would have served with the Bn in Borneo in 1963 - 1965 so his CSM should have been with a Borneo or Malay Peninsula Bar if he was a Rifleman.

I deduce he was on attachment to the Regiment at some time or other and was in the Army Catering Corp or some other Corp that has Privates in it!   He could therefore have served with the Bn in 1967 when we went to UN Cyprus or NI in 1969!

Pure guesswork though I am afraid!

Hello Keith;

Thank you so much for  trying to help me. Having the name Jones definitelly makes thing harder, quite a common name.  Thanks for the deduction, I have to keep the options open to try to identify him.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

regards
Pierre
