Theres a lot of Hype on TV about how well Squadies and Ex Squadies are treated in this country.
The Truth is we are not respected by many and that includes employers.
What they don't know is - We can do anything we put our minds to and we are still the backbone of this country with or without the Respect of the type found in the Pub in Coventry
I was lucky enought to go to Florida Disney last year. While there i was amazed to find out Disney let serving members of its armed forces claim free entry to its parks for them and their family. Also the bars and clubs gave them discounts on there food and drink bills. Outside of Tampa airport was a giant sign saying "Welcome home to all our service personel and Thank you" I also heard they are given free tickets for football and baseball games. They realy support there service personel. We have a lot to learn.
Totally agree with you as to the learning curve, But, Britain would not do anything like putting up signs to welcome our boys back, as it would offend some faction or other..
I mean look what was happening during the Iraq wars, where that slime ball Blair was sneaking our dead Soldiers back into Britain, without any notification to the public.
It was due to a few Regimental Associations ( Including the Green Jackets) that this treatment was brought to the Attention of the Public.
I have nothing good to say about most MP's as they are over paid greedy hypocrites...and Britains Government should not be run on a 'Public School boy mates list'.. so and so knows him ..so give so and so a job...
This Country needs a radical shake up,and if a few idiots who have their heads up their Anus's get peeved...well then Tough!
Lets give the time to our troops, instead of pandering to so called asylum seekers...
What this country doe's not realies that we ex vets and the boys who are serving now would lay down are lives for are country but a certain number of civvies and MPs do not give a **** about us,ban this pub for evermore I will certainly not drink in there full stop.
Whole units of the Army will have to be cut but the regimental system will not be scrapped, says Defence Secretary Philip Hammond.
In a speech to military experts he said the future of the Army will involve "thinking innovatively about how combat service support is provided".
Under the Strategic Defence and Security Review, Army numbers will shrink from 102,000 to 82,000 by 2020.
Mr Hammond says there will be "difficult" decisions ahead.
He told an audience at the Royal United Services Institute: "A regular Army of 82,000 will have a different structure to one of 102,000. And some units inevitably will be lost or will merge."
Philip Hammond MP (remember this man when its time to vote)Member of Parliament (MP) for Weybridge, never been in uniform but been to Oxford.
Tomorrow (05/07/2012) We will find out if 5 Rifles live on, or get the chop, along with other units. What has the country come too?
Lt Gen Nick Carter is the guy, that has been given the task to cut down the numbers in the Armed Forces, and work out the withdrawl of forces from Germany, in close circles it has come to light that this task is not as easy to do. Where do you put all these people and their families. Where do we do our training now!! You have to book trg areas 2 years in advance, no mind the ranges.
I wonder what the next rounds of savings will be?
Here is an idea: Build a lot of DCCT (indoor sim trainers for range work) Then you would save loads on live rounds, empty cases, hava bags, transport, and loads of wood targets. and it can be used 24/7 in all types of weather. What a great idea i might drop our man a line and push forward for a medal, it seams all the top brass get one for sitting on their BUTT.
Here is something i dont understand, If a CO is paid for the rank he holds why is it after OP Tours he ends up getting a CBE, OBE, MBE or higher. But really all he is doing is his job, which he gets a fat pay cheque.
Where on the other hand you get the C/SGT feeding half the planet up all hours, trying to sort out the admin for all troops (good & bad) The work horse of any unit.
Oh well, 5 Rifles are still there, until the next round of cuts. What another round of cuts you might be saying. Of course spreed the bad news over a couple of years. Watch out when the elections are due.
