I was in the Drill Squad. Little Goergie Fortie as bugler, John Glissold as Cpl Then along came csm Hornblower who frighten the life out of us.

If you remember we didnot have to do RSM drill. Remember Windsor Show when a young kid ran away with the officers sword just before we went on.

Forget the name of officer.

Albert

Hi Albert....I Remember the Windsor Show very well I was married and my wife brought our 1 year old son along to watch and to see the queen (I was deferred Nat Service  until I was 21..government couldn't make up its mind if they wanted to end national Service before or after my age group and they decided after hence my group was the last) It was at the Windsor show I got my first taste of "Free Sample Guinness" although RED BARREL was my favourite!  ..and what about the Oxford Speedway meeting? Slough Park and Banbury? If you were in the band at Knook, Do you remember "Joe"? the bugler? Any reminiscences welcome Regards "Shorts"

Hi again Albert.....No I cant remember the name of the officer either. Tall blonde guy with glasses remember him because he came from Bushey in Hertfordshire just up the road from me.........There is a photo of "The Drill Squad" on one of the Greenjackets sites. National Service was a difficult time for me and my wife, what with the low pay and being away from home...We wouldn't have started a family but the government were adamant that my age group wouldn't be needed.....But looking back, it helped me in later life no-end. 9Me and my wife celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary last week got a telegram from "The Queen" wonder if she remembers me from "The Windsor Show" when we lined the route for her land-rover? regards   Shorts
