Hi all, Just a quick message! i was groomed in the ACF  Royal Green Jackets as teenage, with pride i attended 2yrs in readiness for full service, but younger life took a different path and life went on. As an adult now 39 with RGJ ACF training still present in my todays life, my question is? would any serving RGJ be afended if i took my beret to Base camp everest through my choosen charity H4H as i'm going in Nov 2011. Thoughts would be welcome. Thanks S

Hi Shane,

This is a bit of a cheeky reply, my husband is ex RGJ and now in The Rifles.  Well done doing what you are doing - did you know that The Rifles have started their own appeal for their casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan?  They have been hit harder than any other Regiment - 54 Killed In Action in 4 years, 290 seriously injured, 26 amputees (3 have lost 3 limbs each, 8 have lost 2 limbs each), 3 guys in neurological units with brain damage, 2 fully blinded etc etc.  They are out in Afghanistan again now.  In 2010 the Regiment spent over £103,000 helping these casualties alone (not to mention the money they spend on the veterans from RGJ, LI etc etc and the other forming regiments - they spend around £300,000 a year on all of them in addition).  Their charitable funds really need to be boosted because these guys are young and will need the support of the Regimental family for a long time to come.

Have a look at their website:  www.careforcasualties.org.uk

Good luck with your climb in any case.  It will be great to see a Green Jacket capbadge on Everest if I ever visit!

Best wishes,

Rebecca
