I am a US-resident collector of 19th Century British infantry items. I recently acquired from a UK dealer a Rifle Brigade officer's patrol jacket dating to circa 1900. A name tag inside lining identifies owner as C.C. Northcott (or Northcote), 7th Btn, Rifle Brigade. My research indicates the 7th was a militia btn; and that militias were converted to "special reserves" in 1908. The jacket shoulder boards have the rank and also an "M" which I suppose is for militia. I would be grateful for any information on history of Northcott/Northcote. Thanks and regards.
